Foleys Cottage
This beautifully restored farmhouse is just 2 miles from the village of Belmont and less than a 10 min drive from Ferbane. Its interiors are decorated to a high standard, yet offer a real lived in and homely vibe. The spacious kitchen/diner with wonderful Welsh dresser is ideal for family nights in enjoying conversations and dinner, and with the larger than average surrounding lawn a little bit of football could be enjoyed to work off some of that food!
General Area
County Offaly, with its castles, abbeys, and heritage centres, lies near the centre of Ireland. There are numerous places of historical interest throughout the county, including one of the most important early monastic sites in Ireland - Clonmacnoise.
The heathery Slieve Bloom Mountains, in the south-east of Offaly, are ideal for walking and hiking, boasting open moors and hidden valleys just waiting to be explored. The River Shannon separates Offaly from Galway and Roscommon in the west of the county.
Towns and web links
Tullamore, the principal town of County Offally, is home to the famous Tullamore Dew and Irish Mist whiskeys. It is the setting for Charleville Forest castle, an unusually eye-catching gothic structure.
Offaly’s most attractive town is Birr, a small Georgian town that retains much of its original character. Birr Castle and its one hundred acre demesne is an excellent example of early 17th century architecture.
